As a continuation of the August Tomorrow’s Engineer column and also taken from the Engineered Systems-RDK Engineer’s Commissioning & TAB seminar presented last month in Baltimore (July 18, 2007) here
Expanding
a manufacturing facility might motivate a company to consider some sustainable
options. But when your company is actually in the HVAC business, the pressure
is on. In this case, Taco found several ways to walk the walk and pick up LEED
certification, including using its own software to aid in the design.
Cogeneration, a one-pipe system, and touches like controlling the climate in
truck areas to reduce air pollution helped perpetuate the company’s original
concern with energy efficiency.
Being in charge of an engineering group, a department, or a
company takes a lot of planning ahead of time and then continuous improvement
as time goes by. I wrote a book titled, Managing People In The
HVACR Industry that was published by BNP Media that could have
simply been titled Managing People: An On The Job Experience
because the experience and process applies to many who advance into a
management role.
